IPL Final Results: All Seasons IPL Winners, Runners-up, Man Of The Match In The Finals

The Indian Premier League (IPL), a T20 tournament organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was founded in 2008 and has been held for 16 seasons so far.

IPL has been held every year or season with eight teams battling for the title over the years. However, in a few seasons, including the recent two, more teams have competed in the tournament for a chance to lift the coveted title.

Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni - Two most successful captains in IPL history

Season 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 were competed by eight teams, while seasons 4, 15 and 16 were contested by 10 teams, and in Seasons 5 and 6, nine teams battled for the title. At least 15 different franchises have competed in IPL, but few teams have been disbanded or gone defunct.

Most seasons of the IPL have been held in India, but a few seasons have been held partially or entirely abroad as well. In 2009, the tournament was held in South Africa, while the 2014 (partial season), 2020 (full season) and 2021 (half season) were held in UAE.

In the 15 editions of the Indian Premier League so far, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have been the most successful side with 5 titles to their names. CSK has also reached the final the most times.

The next most successful side is Kolkata Knight Riders, who have won the IPL title twice followed by Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and the now defunct Deccan Chargers, who have all won the title at least once.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has reached the final three times, but has ended as runners up in all their three attempts. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and now defunct Rising Pune Supergiants have also finished runners up once each.

In the 16 editions so far, the team batting first has had the most success, winning nine times, while the team chasing has won 7 times. Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural edition, while Gujarat Titans won the title in their debut season.

Also, every edition of the IPL final has seen different players win the player of the final or man of the match awards featuring the greats like Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Kieron Pollard and Shane Watson among others. Now, let's take a look at the IPL final results.
