Indian fast-bowling maestro Mohammed Shami is set to wear new colors in IPL 2025 after Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for a hefty INR 10 crore during the recent mega auction. Shami, who entered the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore, sparked intense bidding before Hyderabad emerged victorious.
The auction for Shami saw significant interest, with Kolkata Knight Riders initiating the bids. Chennai Super Kings quickly joined the fray, followed by a late challenge from Lucknow Super Giants. Ultimately, Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by Kavya Maran, outbid all competitors to land the experienced pacer.

Shami's move to Hyderabad comes after an impactful stint with Gujarat Titans, where he played a crucial role in their bowling attack in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He claimed 20 wickets in IPL 2022 and an impressive 28 wickets in IPL 2023, solidifying his reputation as one of the league's most consistent performers.
Unfortunately, Shami was sidelined during the IPL 2024 season due to an ankle injury, which led the Gujarat Titans to release him. Their decision not to exercise the Right to Match (RTM) option turned out to be a boon for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Since making his debut with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2013, Shami has represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans. With 127 wickets in 109 matches, the 34-year-old pacer is among the most seasoned campaigners in the league.
Renowned for his ability to swing the new ball and deliver lethal yorkers at the death, Shami's inclusion adds firepower to Hyderabad's bowling lineup.
Shami recently made a stunning return to cricket after recovering from his ankle injury. Representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, he showcased his form by taking seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh, proving he is back to his best. His fitness and rhythm make him a crucial asset for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who will look to him for leadership on and off the field.
This is also a move for Mohammed Shami to the local team of his India teammate Mohammed Siraj, who will now be wearing the Gujarat Titans jersey next season. Take a look at how social media reacted after Shami's move to the Orange Army.
