In a significant reshuffle ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction, franchises have announced their retained and released players, sparking discussions around the future of several high-profile captains. Notably, five captains have retained their leadership roles, while five others, including veterans and promising stars, are stepping down or have been released.

The decision to release captains like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, and Faf du Plessis signals a shift in team strategies, likely aimed at bringing in younger or international talent to invigorate team dynamics. Retained Captains

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have shown continued faith in Ruturaj Gaikwad, retaining him as captain. Gaikwad's performance in 2024 saw the team fall just short of the playoffs, but his leadership and consistent batting prowess earned him a spot on the roster with a contract of INR 18 crore.
