IPL Retention 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have reportedly confirmed the retention of Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, following a successful campaign where they finished as runners-up.
The franchise, owned by the Maran family, has retained five players in total, including Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Abhishek Sharma, amounting to a spending of INR 75 crore.

Travis Head, who was pivotal as an opener last season, has agreed to a revised contract worth INR 14 crore, a significant increase from his previous salary of INR 6.80 crore. Head's explosive performance saw him score 567 runs in 15 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 191.5, partnering effectively with Abhishek Sharma to accumulate 599 runs collectively at a strike rate of 13.21 runs per over.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, now a capped player following his recent debut for India, has opted to stay with SRH for INR 6 crore. Had he not debuted for the national team, his retention fee would have been limited to INR 4 crore as per BCCI regulations. At just 21, Reddy is seen as a promising all-rounder and is part of the Indian squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, drawing comparisons to Hardik Pandya.
The retention strategy has allowed SRH to complete their quota of five capped players, positioning them favourably with INR 45 crore remaining in their budget for upcoming auctions. They also retain the Right to Match (RTM) option for an uncapped player, enhancing their flexibility as they aim to build a competitive squad for the next three seasons.
The franchise's retention list highlights their commitment to maintaining a strong core while also adapting to changes in the league. As SRH gears up for the mega auction in Riyadh next month, the focus will be on bolstering their lineup around the retained players, with an eye toward reclaiming their title and enhancing their chances of a successful IPL campaign.
The upcoming auction promises to be crucial for SRH as they seek to complement their retained stars with fresh talent, ensuring they remain a formidable force in the IPL landscape.
