IPL Retention: Did Rohit Sharma just confirm that he would stay at Mumbai Indians?

By MyKhel Staff

IPL Retention: Is Rohit Sharma staying at Mumbai Indians? Will Mumbai Indians retain Mumbai Indians? The nation seriously wants to know this for real. India's only third World Cup-winning captain is in news ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction despite retiring from the format at the international level. Talk about 'aura' now!

Many former cricketers and experts have reckoned that Rohit Sharma could move out to lead a team. Mohammad Kaif recently said that Rohit should accept an offer from any franchise offering him the captaincy role.

Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma are among the contenders to make it to the Mumbai Indians retained players list. The five-time champions are themselves in a spot of bother as they have as many as four captaincy contenders as well in Rohit, Surya, Bumrah and the incumbent Hardik Pandya.

Adding further twist is the new retention rules which says that only two players can be retained in the highest Rs 18 crore bracket. So, will Mumbai Indians retain Rohit Sharma for Rs 18 crore, or will Rohit himself agree and settle for a less costly contract?

Rohit Sharma to stay at Mumbai Indians?

Amid all the rumours and speculations, Rohit Sharma might himself have dropped a hint. The 37-year-old arrived to train at the Reliance Corporate Park Cricket Ground in the lead up to the three-match Test series against New Zealand starting October 16.

The ground is owned by Reliance industries and is often used by the Mumbai Indians players for training purposes. The facility is filled with the logo of Mumbai Indians. A picture of Rohit Sharma's famous blue Lamborghini parked outside the 'mini Mumbai Indians office' at the venue has also gone viral.

Rohit Sharma arriving at the facility to train could be something very routine in nature, but many are looking at it from a very different angle, and considering the timing and the approaching deadline date (October 31) for IPL 2025 retention, they cannot be blamed.
