Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen sixes being hit for fun, and the amount of maximums struck has grown every season with the likes of Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Andre Russell dominating the charts.
872 maximums struck in the 2018 season was once the highest in a season, but that record was surpassed in IPL 2022, IPL 2023 and IPL 2024 as over 1000 sixes were struck in a single IPL season.

With the fearless approach to the game from several batters, there is every chance of that record being breached thanks to the smaller grounds and the flat unforgiving wickets on which the bowlers have to bowl.
The first 38 matches of the IPL 2025 season has already seen around 650 maximums with usual suspects Nicholas Pooran, Abhishek Sharma, Mitchell Marsh, and Shreyas Iyer all coming to the party, while some uncapped players like Ashutosh Sharma, Priyansh Arya and Aniket Verma also have cleared the ropes several times.
With many more players like Marcus Stoinis, Rohit, Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Sunil Narine and Suryakumar Yadav among others, all flexing their muscles, the record from 2024 is likely to be shattered this season. Here is a look at the year-wise total sixes:

Gayle, who tops the list for most sixes in IPL, dominates the list for players with most sixes from every season in IPL. Gayle and his compatriot Russell are the only players to have breached the 50 sixes mark in a single season. Gayle has hit over 50 sixes in a season at least two times.
Recent years has seen the likes of Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, KL Rahul, Jos Buttler and Faf Du Plessis top the charts, but this year with several big hitters in top form, we may see the 50 sixes mark breached again in IPL 2025. Here is a look at the season-wise most sixes by a player list.

Every year we have seen different players top the charts for most sixes. Similarly, we have seen different teams also end up on top with players from the respective team smashing the most maximums.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have taken attacking batting to another level, and thanks to their explosive batters, the record for most sixes by a team in IPL was broken in 2024. With more than 100 sixes struck in the first five matches, even that record is not safe in 2025. Here is a look at the team-wise most sixes in every edition:
