IPL to provide boost to career: Tanvir

By Staff

Dhaka, Jun 8 (UNI) Promising Pakistan medium pacer Sohail Tanvir is hoping that his stupendous performance in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) will provide a much-needed boost to his international career.

''Obviously my performance in the IPL was really good. I want to carry the success to this tri-series to cement my place in the team,'' Tanvir told mediapersons here yesterday.

Despite making a big impact in his short international career, Tanvir feels he still has a lot to learn.

''I recently started playing for the country. At least now, I am seeing the success in some ways. It is a big responsibility. I am improving day by day,'' he said.

The 23-year-old left-arm pacer was confident Pakistan will do well in the Kitply Cup.

''Everybody is confident and all of us are keen to keep up the rhythm of having won 11 matches in a row,'' he affirmed. ''I think we will do well in this tournament.'' Speaking on the opening match against Bangladesh Tanvir said,''We have an edge over Bangladesh. Of course, Bangladesh have the advantage of the home ground and home support. It will be a good and tough competition.'' Tanvir denied that the absence of senior players will prove to be a disadvantage for the Indian team.

''(Sourav) Ganguly, (Rahul) Dravid and Sachin (Tendulkar) are great players. But the youngsters have achieved success in Australia,'' he pointed out. ''Youngsters also need to be given chances and every country has its own long term policy.'' Tanvir, who played for Rajastan Royals in the inaugural IPL, was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 22 wickets at an impressive average of 12.09 UNI XC AB CS1505
