Most Sixes in IPL Year-wise: Total Sixes & Most Maximums by Player in Every Season of Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen sixes being hit for fun since the tournament’s inception, and the amount of sixes hit has swelled each and every season with the likes of Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Andre Russell dominating the charts.

872 maximums struck in the 2018 season was once the highest in a season, but that record was surpassed in IPL 2022 and IPL 2023, which saw over 1000 sixes struck in a single IPL season. 2023 also saw the record for most sixes broken in match 70 with over 1100 sixes.

IPL Year-wise Sixes Record - Total Sixes and Most Maximums

With the number of matches also being increased, there is every chance of more sixes being struck in the next few years, thanks to the smaller grounds and the flat unforgiving wickets on which the bowlers have to bowl.

The first few matches of the IPL 2024 season had already seen over 50 maximums with usual suspects Liam Livingstone, Russell and Heinrich Klaasen all coming to the party.

With many more players like Marcus Stoinis, Rovman Powell, Rohit, Dhoni, Nicholas Pooran among others, all flexing their muscles, the record was broken in IPL 2024. Here is a look at the year-wise total sixes:
