In a plot twist, Kavya Maran finds herself battling more than just on-field woes, as whispers of her skipper's sudden exit threaten to derail SRH’s already fragile campaign.
SRH owner Kavya Maran may be staring at a major setback in the IPL 2025, as fresh rumours swirl around the possible premature departure of her side’s skipper, Pat Cummins after the Australian pacer’s wife’s cryptic Instagram story.

On April 18, Friday, Becky Cummins took to Instagram to share a post that set social media abuzz. The story featured images of her alongside Pat Cummins at an airport, captioned, "Goodbye India, we have loved visiting this beautiful country."
The timing of the post- just a day after SRH’s disheartening loss to Mumbai Indians- has only fuelled speculation that the SRH captain may be preparing to fly home mid-season. While no official confirmation has come from either the player or the franchise, the post has undoubtedly stirred anxiety among Sunrisers fans.
If Cummins does leave, it would be a crushing blow to Kavya Maran's team, which has already been plagued by inconsistency this season. SRH currently sit in ninth place on the points table, with just two wins from seven matches. Their campaign began on a promising note with a victory over Rajasthan Royals, but the momentum quickly faded with a series of defeats.
Their slide began with a loss to Lucknow Super Giants(LSG), followed by further disappointments against Delhi Capitals(DC), Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR), and Gujarat Titans(GT). A brief glimmer of hope arrived when the Sunrisers pulled off a sensational chase against Punjab Kings(PBKS), with Abhishek Sharma’s electrifying century leading them to a successful pursuit of 246.
However, that high was short-lived, as SRH failed to defend 163 against Mumbai Indians(MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, losing by 4 wickets. Notably, Pat Cummins turned in an impressive personal performance during that match, finishing his four overs with figures of 3 for 26. His efforts, however, went in vain as the team faltered once again.
SRH’s upcoming fixture is, once again, against the same opponents- Mumbai Indians-on April 23 in Hyderabad. The five-time champions will be high on confidence after their recent triumph, while SRH will be desperate to avenge their earlier defeat and resurrect their campaign.
But with the uncertainty surrounding Cummins’ availability, questions loom large over SRH’s leadership and bowling strength. The Australian skipper has been a key figure for the side, and his potential absence could send ripples through the squad- both on and off the field.
For Kavya Maran, the 2025 season was supposed to be a turning point. Retaining Cummins for INR 18 crore was a bold move, underlining her commitment to building a competitive unit under the leadership of a proven international captain.
The coming days will be crucial for SRH, as they attempt to regroup, refocus, and climb back up the table. But if Cummins does, indeed, exit the tournament midway, it could mark a significant turning point in what has already been a turbulent season for the Hyderabad-based franchise.
