IPL chief Lalit Modi may be suspended tonight: media report

Mumbai, April 25 (ANI): Just a day ahead of the much-awaited crucial meet of the Indian Premier League's Governing Council slated to be held in Mumbai, the IPL's controversial chairman Lalit Modi is likely to be suspended on Sunday night, a Times Now report claimed today.

Earlier in the day, a closed-door strategy session was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The meeting had been called to tweak the final strategies for the all-important Governing Council meet to take place tomorrow (April 26) in Mumbai.

According to latest reports on Sunday evening, Modi may be barred from IPL's Governing Council meet.

"Modi may be suspended tonight," the report stated and added sources as saying: "There is no other option but to suspend Modi."

Earlier, on Sunday noon, a Times Now report quoted its sources saying that the closed-door meeting of big players in Indian cricketing had been called to discuss the strategy to take on Modi at the Governing Council meet, when he is expected to put up a strong defence against charges of allegedly conducting financial irregularities in the IPL, currently being probed by the government.

"Six prominent members of BCCI are currently discussing the legal modalities needed to call for the resolution which is to be passed to seek the ouster of Modi," the report had further stated.

Earlier in the day, Modi in a major surprising move, indicated he would attend and chair the crucial IPL Governing Council meeting called to decide his fate.

"I will attend and chair the meeting of the Governing Council as chairman and commissioner. I have issued the agenda to the Governing Council," Modi tweeted.

Modi's tweet put an end to the intense speculation on whether he would attend the meeting which is expected to press for his ouster. (ANI)
