221-22 Ranji Winners Madhya Pradesh will be taking on the Rest of India in this season's Irani Cup fixture.

The Irani Cup is a one-off fixture tournament where the Ranji winner of the previous season takes on a combined team comprised of the Rest of the Indian teams. Generally, the match takes place at the start of the new domestic season.

This year, the coveted championship will be taking place in Gwalior. It was initially supposed to be played in Indore, but India's match against Australia was shifted there from Dharamshala, resulting in Gwalior getting a chance to host the match.

Mayank Agarwal will be leading the Rest of India squad in the Irani Cup clash against Madhya Pradesh. Two of the Saurashtra players Harvik Desai and Chetan Sakariya, who won the Ranji title this season are part of the team. Bengal batter Sudip Gharami is also included in the squad along with Abhimanyu Easwaran, while pace duo Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep are also included in the squad.

The surprising miss will be Sarfaraz Khan as the Mumbai batter suffered an injury while playing the DY Patil T20 Cup in Mumbai. The player is currently nursing his injury at a training camp organized by Delhi Capitals in Kolkata.

There was a late change to the Rest of India squad as Mayank Markande was replaced by Shams Mulani. Markande injured his right index finger during the training and has been ruled out of the tournament.

Madhya Pradesh will be led by Himanshu Mantri as the regular captain Aditya Shrivastava is set to miss the match. The MP team will have Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Rajat Patidar in their mix as they look to topple the rest of India squad.

Madhya Pradesh, the 2021-22 Champions were set to play their Irani Cup at the start of the season. But Saurashtra were given the chance to play the match then as they were denied their match last season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
