Iraq's Saleem banned after positive test

By Staff

Bangkok, Oct 3: Iraq defender Muaad Saleem has been suspended for 18 months after testing positive for a banned substance during last year's Asian Games in Doha, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said today.

Saleem's suspension will be served from May 16, making him eligible to play in November 15 next year.

The 25-year-old, who plays for Baghdad club Al Quwa Al Jawiya, helped take Iraq to the final of the Asian Games, where they lost 1-0 to hosts Qatar.
