Ireland-West Indies ODI washed out

Fans hoping to see the likes of Chris Gayle were disappointed as Ireland's one-day international with West Indies was abandoned.

Ireland vs West Indies

Belfast, September 13: Ireland's one-day international with West Indies was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Wednesday as the Belfast weather intervened.

The skies were bright over Stormont for much of the morning but, due to a wet outfield the scheduled start of 10:15 local time was delayed.

Several inspections followed and, with lunch taken at 13:00, the rain started to fall and put paid to any hopes of play in the one-off contest.

It was a blow for Ireland in their first ODI since becoming a full ICC member, while fans hoping to see the likes of Chris Gayle were left disappointed.

For the tourists, it was hardly the ideal preparation ahead of their Twenty20 against England on Saturday, before a five-match ODI series with Eoin Morgan's men.
