Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has been attacked with vile tweets and comments on his social media handles after posting a picture with Sania Mirza.

The picture is from Sania's star-studded retirement bash post her exhibition match at the Lal Bahadur Tennis Stadium in Hyderabad.

Congratulating the 36-year-old on her path-breaking career, Irfan wrote,"You have been unstoppable exactly like this song. So proud of your achievement. The real journey starts after retirement."

Notably, Sania bid adieu to tennis after a surprising first-round exit in her women’s doubles match at the Dubai Open in February. She won a total of six Grand Slam titles in her 20-year-long professional career.

The post did not go down well with a few of the Muslim Twitter users who attacked Irfan for posing with a 'married, non-hijabi Muslim’ tennis legend.

This isn't the first time when the former India all-rounder is on the radar of religious fanatics on social media.

The cricketer-turned-commentator will be next seen in action in the upcoming Legends League Cricket Masters in Doha. The T20 competition features several former cricket stars from all parts of the world will be participating in the tournament.
