Is Jasprit Bumrah Injury Worse Than Projected? Australian Legend Sparks Concerns

By MyKhel Staff

India's loss to Australia on Day 3 at the SCG, which handed the visitors a 4-1 series victory, has raised significant concerns about Jasprit Bumrah's fitness for the 2025 season, with Champions Trophy and IPL coming up.

Bumrah, who ended the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 as the leading wicket-taker with 32 dismissals at an average of 13.06, was cleared to bat during India's defeat but did not bowl in Australia's successful chase. His absence in the attack proved critical, leaving fans and cricket experts worried.

Jasprit Bumrah injury update

Australian legend Ricky Ponting believes Bumrah's injury could be more severe than initially reported. On Channel 7, Ponting remarked, "It seemed like a real worry for me. They said back spasms when he got back (to the SCG). But he's running up the stairs. He ran off the field. That's not signs or symptoms of back spasms." Ponting, referencing Bumrah's history of stress fractures, added, "I hope it's not serious, and I'd love to see him play further without an extended layoff."

Adding fuel to the speculation, Australian journalist Peter Lalor suggested that Jasprit Bumrah might have visited the hospital for an injection, not scans. Speaking on the same broadcast, Lalor said, "My mail is he didn't go for a scan. They have scanning machines in the dressing rooms. He went for an injection. Probably Cortisone."

Bumrah bowled an exhausting 151 overs during the series, showcasing his brilliance but also highlighting the risks of overexertion. Known as the world's No. 1 bowler, his effort to spearhead India's attack in the gruelling series may have taken a toll.

Fans are now questioning whether Bumrah's injury woes could hint at a long-term concern. Social media has been abuzz with apprehension, as many wonder if the 30-year-old pacer's prime years are being hampered by relentless workloads.

As India looks to regroup after the series loss, Bumrah's fitness will be under close scrutiny. The team cannot afford to lose their pace spearhead for another extended period, especially with crucial tournaments on the horizon.
