IND vs AFG: Ishan Kishan dropped for partying with MS Dhoni? Shreyas Iyer also not selected on disciplinary grounds

Ishan Kishan might be in for some punishments on disciplinary grounds for opting out of South Africa Tests due to mental fatigue and then participating in a popular quiz show and partying in Dubai alongside MS Dhoni.

The 25-year-old pulled back his name for the 2-Test series citing mental fatigue and travelled back to India. The Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter was on the road since the start of 2023, however, featured in the eleven only in the absence of regulars.

He featured in the first two matches of the World Cup 2023, before Shubman Gill recovered from dengue and pushed him out of the eleven. Same was the case during Asia Cup 2023. In South Africa, Jitesh Sharma was preferred over in the T20I series.

However, BCCI is reportedly unimpressed with Ishan Kishan for taking a time off from the game on mental fatigue grounds, and then partying in Dubai. Ishan Kishan also appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati alongside India Women star Smriti Mandhana. Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika has claimed that Ishan Kishan was not included in the India squad for Afghanistan T20Is for the same reason.

The report claimed that Ishan might also be excluded from the T20 World Cup squad for his actions. It also said that Shreyas Iyer was also dropped from the Afghanistan T20Is on disciplinary grounds.

The selectors were unimpressed by Shreyas Iyer's shot selection during South Africa Tests and wanted him to feature in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 matches for Mumbai. However, the right-hander instead asked for time off. Irked selectors dropped him for the three T20I series. However, Shreyas later made himself available for the match against Andhra Pradesh from January 12.

According to Anandabazar Patrika, the Ajit Agarkar-led panel will take serious actions against players not taking Test and first-class cricket seriously. It also added that they were impressed with Rinku Singh who can soon get a Test call-up.
