Ishan Kishan ignores suggestion from Rahul Dravid, uncertainty over his India career deepens

The 25-year-old pulled out of the two-Test series against South Africa on the grounds of 'personal reasons'. Later, sources revealed that the southpaw took a break due to mental fatigue.

The reports added that constant travelling and uncertainty over his selection in the playing eleven took a toll on the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter's mental health.

Ishan Kishan was also not picked for the 3-match home T20I series against Afghanistan. All looked normal until a report suggesting that Ishan Kishan missed out due to disciplinary grounds went viral. The report claimed that the BCCI and the management were not impressed with Kishan taking a break only to party in Dubai.

However, head coach Rahul Dravid quashed the report ahead of the first T20I, saying that Kishan did not make himself available for the selection. He added that the youngster would have to go back to domestic cricket before making himself available.

"Absolutely no disciplinary issue. Ishan Kishan was not available for selection. Ishan requested for a break, which we agreed in South Africa. We supported it. He has not yet made himself available. When he is available, he will play domestic cricket and make himself available for selection," Dravid had told reporters.

Kishan missed two chances straight up to feature in Jharkhand's Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match against Saurashtra (from January 5) and Maharashtra (from January 12). There was a third chance when Jharkhand took on Services in their third Elite Group A match of the season on Friday, January 19.

Ishan Kishan's name once again opted out of Jharkhand's Ranji Trophy match, leading to further speculations with his future with the Indian cricket team. Having already missed out on a berth for the first two Test matches against England, Ishan Kishan should ideally be returning to action and claim his spot back in the team.

However, the youngster remains inactive despite the selectors calling up a 22-year-old Dhruv Jurel as the third wicketkeeper-batter alongside KL Rahul and KS Bharat for the first two Tests against England.
