Ishan Kishan makes himself available for Jharkhand ahead of domestic season after suggestion from well-wishers

By MyKhel Staff

Ishan Kishan has made himself available to play in the upcoming domestic season for Jharkhand after being suggested by his well-wishers and national selectors. The wicketkeeper-batter was dropped from the national side and BCCI's central contract list after refusing to play Ranji Trophy matches earlier this year.

The 26-year-old southpaw's last outing for India came back in October 2023. He was part of the T20I series against South Africa in December but Jitesh Sharma played ahead of him in all the matches. He pulled out of his name from the following Test series because of not getting regular opportunities in the eleven.

Ishan Kishan was part of India's Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 squads, but could play only a handful of matches. KL Rahul replaced him in the playing eleven at the Asia Cup despite a stunning knock against Pakistan, while he had to make room for Shubman Gill in the World Cup after featuring in the first two games.

Ishan Kishan was time and again advised by the Indian team management and the BCCI to play some domestic matches to make a comeback to the Indian squad, but Ishan Kishan instead trained in Baroda with his Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and made his comeback with the IPL 2024.

Out of the team for more than nine months now, Ishan Kishan has finally made himself available for the upcoming domestic season which starts with Duleep Trophy first-class matches in September. He has been included in the list of 25 pre-season probables by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA).

His well-wishers and some national selectors have reportedly counselled him and made him understand that he might miss on international opportunities at the prime of his career, and therefore bringing him back in reckoning for the national team by playing domestic matches was important.

Ishan Kishan is also expected to lead the Jharkhand but an official decision hasn't been taken. The southpaw has so far represented India in 2 Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is after making his debut in March 2021.
