Ishan Kishan opted to pull out of the 2-Test series against South Africa due to mental fatigue which has been triggered by constant travelling with the team and uncertainty over his selection in the playing eleven.
Ishan Kishan has been a constant part of the team since the start of 2023 but has been devoid of game times. He featured in the first two matches of the World Cup 2023 before Shubham Gill recovered from typhoid and replaced him in the eleven. In Asia Cup 2023 as well, Ishan Kishan was replaced by KL Rahul.

Most recently, the 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter travelled with the India T20I squad but did not get to play any game as Jitesh Sharma played ahead of him in all the three matches.
The Indian Express has reported that Ishan Kishan requested Team India management for a break as he had been travelling non-stop. The management then spoke to the selectors who agreed to Kishan’s request.
“He informed the team management that he is having mental fatigue and wants a break from cricket for some time. Everyone agreed to it,” a source confirmed The Indian Express.
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) had earlier issued a press release, saying that Ishan Kishan has opted out of the Test series due to personal reasons.
“Ishan Kishan has requested the BCCI to be released from the upcoming Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons. The wicketkeeper has subsequently been withdrawn from the Test squad. The men’s selection committee has named KS Bharat as a replacement,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah had stated in its press release.
The southpaw batter is most likely going to return for the 3-match home T20I series against Afghanistan starting December 11 in Mohali.
