Ishant Sharma reveals lowest moment of his career and how MS Dhoni helped him

Ishant Sharma has played over 100 Tests in his career. The pace star has been one of the top performers in the last decade or so for India in the red ball format.

But the bowler has had his share of downs in his career. As a part of a professional player's career, the lanky pacer has also faced some lean patches in his career. And he shared one of those moments recently. Sharing one of the incidents, Ishant recalled the lowest point of his career and how he managed to overcome that.

"My lowest moment was that 2013 match in Mohali against Australia. I don't know if I could ever have a moment worse than that," Ishant said on a show named Rise of New India.

"It was very tough for me. And it wasn't because I gave away a lot of runs. The thing that hurt me the most was I was the reason behind the team's loss. I was dating my wife at that time and I just spoke to her and I think I just cried for almost a month. I used to call her every day and cry over the phone saying that team lost because of me," he added.

The 34-year-old also believes that particular match inflicted a lot of damage to his credentials as a white ball bowler as he thinks people considered him not apt in the limited overs format after that.

"The good thing that happened was Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) came to my room and Shikhar (Dhawan), who was playing that game, also came and said, 'Look you have been doing well (Dekh, tu acha khel raha hai).' Because of that one match, there became a perception that I am not a white-ball bowler," he further said.

Ishant last played for India in the Test format in 2021 against New Zealand. Since then, he hasn't been considered for selection. His last limited-over appearance for India came back in 2016.
