Ishant 'suffered' with 1-Test ban because of Kohli, Shastri: Coach

Mumbai, Sep 3: India's fast bowler Ishant Sharma has "suffered" with a one-Test ban due to captain Virat Kohli and Team Director Ravi Shastri, according to the paceman's personal coach.

In the 3-Test series against Sri Lanka, which was won by India 2-1, Ishant was aggressive on the field. The Delhi boy had several altercations with the opposition players and as a result he was suspended for 1 Test. And also he was fined 65 per cent of his match fees. Kohli had supported Ishant's behaviour. (200 wickets for Ishant)

Now, Ishant's coach Shravan Kumar has said he is surprised that his ward has become so aggressive suddenly. According to him, it was due to Kohli and Shastri.

"Ishant crossed the limit this time. Sledging is a part of the game, but by making gestures he invited more trouble from the match referee. I think he got carried away with the dressing room atmosphere, especially when you have a captain and Team Director who talk so much about aggression," Shravan was quoted as saying in "Mid-day" today.

The coach said he would advise Ishant to control his aggression and make him realise that he was the one who is suffering for his misbehaviour and the team management had not supported him in this.

"I will definitely ask him to control his aggression. By now, he must have realised that he is the one who suffered in this incident.

"The team management hasn't come forward to request the match referee to remove his ban. Ishant needs to be counseled and learn the art of sledging, which is a very subtle act," he said.

Even Ishant's father Vijay Kumar was stunned with his son's attitude on the field. He said Ishant deserved to be banned for 1 match.

"What Ishant did on the field was not good. He has been promptly punished by the ICC. Ishant should have controlled his emotions. He wasn't so aggressive during his childhood days," the bowler's father was quoted as saying in "The Asian Age".

Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi too had slammed Ishant's behaviour. He termed it as "pathetic display of aggression".
