A comprehensive Majhi Mumbai side dominated defending champions Tiigers of Kolkata to commence their ISPL 2025 journey with a fantastic victory.
The second season of the ISPL began in style at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium saw Majhi Mumbai delivering a commanding performance, defeating Tiigers of Kolkata by 8 wickets in a rematch of last season's final.

Opting to bowl first, Mumbai's disciplined bowling attack dismantled Kolkata's batting lineup, restricting them to a meager 68/8 in their allotted overs. Ankur Singh spearheaded the early damage, claiming three crucial wickets-Fardeen Kazi, Thomas Dias, and Navaz Khan-in quick succession to leave Kolkata reeling at 22/3. Rajendra Singh then further rattled the opposition, adding two wickets to his tally.
Mumbai's bowlers made full use of the innovative "Tape Ball" overs (3rd and 5th), with Rajat Mundhe conceding just five runs across his two overs. Kolkata's struggles continued as they opted for their strategic "50-50" over in the 7th, a gamble that backfired spectacularly. Instead of capitalizing, Kolkata lost two wickets, including skipper Moyoddin Alimuddin Shaikh (15), and managed only a single run from the over. Late contributions from Sarfaraz Khan (11) and Bhavesh Pawar (16) helped the Tiigers inch to 68, despite losing three wickets in the final over.
Chasing a modest target, Majhi Mumbai stumbled early with the dismissal of opener Mohammed Nadeem on the third ball of the innings. However, Rajat Mundhe and Karan More steadied the ship, navigating through the Tape Ball over and bringing Mumbai to a comfortable position at 31/1 by the strategic time-out.
Choosing the 8th over for their 50-50 challenge, Mumbai's batters executed their plan to perfection. Although Rajat fell after hitting a boundary, Karan More (26 not out) and Amit Naik (21 not out) carried the innings forward with confidence. Needing 22 runs from the final 50-50 over, Karan and Amit attacked Imroz Khan mercilessly, hitting him for four boundaries in quick succession to seal the victory with two overs to spare.
