'It is upto BCCI... People tend to Forget': Gautam Gambhir makes huge claim on his Future as India Test Coach

By MyKhel Staff

India's Test defeat against South Africa has created a massive stir, most of which has been directed at head coach Gautam Gambhir.

The Indian team suffered a 0-2 series loss against the Proteas, thus suffering their second clean sweep in Tests on home soil.

It is upto BCCI People tend to Forget Gautam Gambhir makes huge claim on his Future as India Test Coach

Gambhir has been hugely criticised for his decisions and for the results under him as India head coach. He has become the first coach to suffer 2 clean sweeps in Test cricket.

Amid this, talks have sparked over his future as India Test coach. Some have called for Gambhir's sack, while others have opted for a split-coach system. Amid this, Gautam was asked at the post-match press conference about his thoughts on his own role, and if he is the right person to coach India, and Gambhir gave a blunt reply.

"It is up to BCCI to decide (if Gambhir will continue). I've said it during my first press conference when I took over as the head coach that Indian cricket is important and not important. And I sit here and say exactly the same thing," Gambhir said.

"And yes, people can keep forgetting about I'm the same guy who got results in England as well, with a young team. And I'm sure you guys will forget very soon, because a lot of people keep talking about New Zealand that I'm the same guy under who we won the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup as well," he added.

On the current scenario of the Indian Test team, he refrained from blaming a single individual and called for collective responsibility. The India head coach also stood beside the current crop of players, stating the players are giving their everything to turn things around.
