It's a 'new challenge' to play under latest ODI rules, says captain Ajinkya Rahane

Mumbai, July 1: India's ODI captain for Zimbabwe tour, Ajinkya Rahane feels the changes in ODI rules will be a "new challenge" for him and the team.

On June 26 (Friday), the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Board approved 4 changes to ODI playing conditions. (Want to be calm as Dhoni: Rahane)

Ajinkya Rahane trains in a gymnasium in Mumbai on Tuesday (June 30).

According to new set of rules, there will be no batting powerplay of 5 overs and 3 fielders will be allowed outside the 30-yard circle between 41 and 50 overs. No compulsory catchers in 1 to 10 overs and free hit for all no balls are the other two changes which will come into effect from July 5.

India's first ODI series with these new set of rules will be in Zimbabwe. The opening of the 3 ODIs against Zimbabwe is on July 10.

Rahane, who was appointed as Team India's skipper after MS Dhoni was rested for the African trip, said they need to change strategies with these amendments.

"With the new ODI rules in place, it will be a new challenge and we will get used to it once we start implementing it in the Zimbabwe tour," Rahane told BCCI's website bcci.tv on Tuesday (June 30).

"You also need to change the strategies accordingly. We will get an idea of it after the first ODI and understand how challenging it will be for the batsmen and the bowlers," added the right-handed batsman from Mumbai.

India will play 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is in Zimbabwe.
