Iyer Smashes Maiden T20I Ton as India Storm Past West Indies to Seal 10th Straight Win
New Delhi, Oct 6: Shreyas Iyer turned a tricky chase into a demolition job. After West Indies had threatened to make India work for 172 on a surface offering enough grip for the spinners, Iyer unleashed a spectacular assault, smashing an unbeaten maiden T20I hundred to take India home in just 14.4 overs. The emphatic eight-wicket win extended India's T20I winning streak to 10.
After West Indies recovered from a shaky start to post 171, India briefly slipped to 36 for 2 in the chase. But what followed was a breathtaking assault from Iyer, who turned a tricky chase into a one-sided contest, smashing a maiden T20I century as India raced home with 32 balls to spare in Lucknow.

The victory extended India's winning streak in T20Is to 10 matches and highlighted the depth of their bowling attack, with three spinners sharing eight wickets between them.
West Indies began brightly through Shai Hope, who carried his excellent form from the ODI series into the shortest format. He struck four boundaries off Mayank Yadav in the second over, helping the visitors reach 21 without loss.
India soon wrestled back control. Arshdeep Singh's precise yorkers created pressure before Kamil Pooran played on. Axar Patel then produced the decisive over of the powerplay, bowling a double-wicket maiden. Shimron Hetmyer was run out after his bat bounced before the crease, while Rovman Powell was beaten by a straight delivery as West Indies slipped to 44 for 3.
Hope and Sherfane Rutherford rebuilt the innings, adding momentum during the middle overs. Rutherford struck two sixes off Kuldeep Yadav, while West Indies took 18 from Axar's 11th over. With India's fifth-bowling option under pressure, West Indies appeared poised for a strong finish.
That was when T20I debutant Naman Dhir stepped up. After being hit for a six by Hope, Dhir immediately slowed the pace and had him caught at deep midwicket. He then dismissed Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer using clever changes of pace and wide lines. His three wickets for 31 runs ensured West Indies finished on 171 rather than something closer to 190.
India's chase initially looked vulnerable. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson fell early as Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein extracted enough grip from the surface to trouble the batters.
But Ishan Kishan and Iyer quickly restored India's momentum. By the end of the powerplay, India were 62 for 2, needing 110 from 14 overs.
Iyer then transformed the chase. From 45 off 25 balls, he exploded, smashing six sixes in his next 18 deliveries. He plundered 24 runs from Matthew Forde's 14th over and raced to his maiden T20I hundred.
With Kishan rotating the strike at the other end, Iyer finished the job spectacularly. India reached 175 for 2 in just 14.4 overs, sealing another emphatic victory and their 10th consecutive T20I win.
