The injury list ahead of IPL 2026 is becoming a growing concern for the franchises. Already, Sam Curran and Nathan Ellis have been sidelined for the entire season. Now, another Australian, Jack Edwards, has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after picking up a foot injury.
The 25-year-old seam-bowling all-rounder was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for ₹ 3 crore ($ 333,000 approximately) at the last auction. He was set to make his IPL debut this season, but that opportunity will now be delayed. Notably, he was the only uncapped overseas player picked up during the 2025 auction.

Edwards put together a standout BBL 2025-26 season, emerging as a key contributor for the Sydney Sixers with 19 wickets and 133 runs from 13 appearances. His performances showcased both his wicket-taking ability and useful lower-order hitting, playing an important role in the Sixers' run to the final.
He was quickly rewarded with an international debut just four days after the final defeat to the Perth Scorchers, featuring in a T20I against Pakistan in Perth. However, the outing did not go to plan, as he finished with figures of 0 for 25 from two overs and managed just 5 runs off six deliveries.
Since then, Edwards has continued his development in domestic cricket, turning out for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield. He has featured in two matches for his state side, gaining valuable red-ball experience, with his most recent appearance concluding as recently as Thursday.
The injury to Jack Edwards is a major blow for SRH, who are already reeling from the absence of Pat Cummins for the start of the season as he recovers from a lumbar stress issue. In the absence of Cummins, Ishan Kishan is set to take over as captain, while Abhishek Sharma is named vice-captain of the side.
Edwards' injury is an extension of the list of injuries to Australian fast bowlers. Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis, apart from Cummins, are also missing the IPL either partially or completely owing to injuries.
SRH will play its first match of IPL 2026 on March 28 in Bengaluru as they take on defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
