Jake Fraser-McGurk seems to be hitting form in Delhi Capitals (DC) practice games right in time for the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 amidst warning from Australian great Adam Gilchrist.
Fraser-McGurk had announced his arrival in IPL last season, arriving as an injury replacement and then smashing 330 runs in nine innings at a staggering strike rate of 234.04, to rightfully earn another contract in the IPL.

The young opener's aggressive approach right from the offset turned heads, making him one of the most feared batters in the competition. But, his form and numbers significantly dipped since the IPL 2024 as he managed just 382 runs across 24 innings at an average of 15.91 and a strike rate of 136.91.
Despite his lean form, DC rewarded the young Australian with a retention ahead of the IPL Mega Auction last year, retaining his services for the upcoming season on a Rs 9 Crore contract. The big money brings that extra pressure, and that's why Gilchrist had a message for his compatriot.
The former Australian wicketkeeper-batter, who captain one of the teams to an IPL title during his playing days, has warned the youngster that IPL franchises are unforgiving when it comes to dip in form slumps, adding that Fraser-McGurk must hit the ground running.
"(Delhi) have shown great faith in keeping him at the franchise," Gilchrist told Fox Cricket. "It's important he starts well. What I do know of the IPL typically is that franchises and owners and coaches, they don't tolerate a lack of results for too long."
The Arun Jaitely Stadium, which had seen slow-low wickets over the years, has produced some high-scoring contests in recent years, especially in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the following IPL last year in 2024. Gilchrist believes that Fraser-McGurk could thrive on the batting-friendly surface at the Kotla.
"The wicket that he batted on was extraordinarily high-scoring last year. All the offerings will be there. It's up to him now to keep a level head on those opportunities," added Gilchrist. And the young Australian opener may have just worked on getting off the blocks early.
In a video clip shared on social media, Fraser-McGurk can be smashing the ball to all parts of the park with the Australian finding the neat of the bat and clearing the boundary several times of spinners. There are unconfirmed reports that he smashed an unbeaten 100 off 37 balls before retiring from his innings.
Fraser-McGurk will look to carry the good touch when Delhi Capitals open their IPL 2025 campaign on Monday (March 24) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
