Kolkata Knight Riders have gone into the market and roped in England batter Jason Roy for the IPL 2023 season. Roy will be coming in as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan withdrew from the KKR squad citing personal issues and international commitments. KKR are also set to miss their captain Shreyas Iyer, who will undergo back surgery for a recurring lower back problem.

Roy, the 32-year-old, will be coming into the Knight Riders squad and will be available for the Royal Challengers Bangalore match on Thursday. And as IPL announced, the English player will be earning a lot more than his base price.
Jason Roy was roped in for INR 2.8 crore by the Kolkata Knight Riders. The England batter's base price was INR 1.5 crore and KKR have gone on to pay him almost double fold of that price to acquire his services.
Roy has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL before and was part of the Gujarat Titans squad last year. The Englishman will become the 10th replaced player in this IPL season across all teams.
It is also understood that both Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans approached the Englishman for his signature, but in the end, it was the two-time champions KKR who managed to lure the player in. Titans have replaced injured Kane Williamson with Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka.
