Jason Roy has revealed why he pulled out of IPL 2024. The England batter, who was set to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said that he has been away from his family since January and would like to spend some time with them before setting off for another busy season.
The 33-year-old is currently playing for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. The opener scored 18 runs in his last outing against Lahore Qalandars. Earlier, Roy played for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the International League T20 (ILT20).

Roy wished KKR luck ahead of the IPL 2024 season, before expressing his desire to spend some quality time with his family and setting off for another busy season.
“After much consideration, I have made the tough decision to miss this year's IPL. Having been away since the start of January I need to get back to my family and have a refresh before a very busy year ahead. I will be supporting my friends and teammates at KKR throughout the tournament and wish them the best of luck,” Jason Roy said in a statement.
Despite playing just eight matches, Jason Roy had scored the fourth-highest run for KKR in the 2023 edition. He scored 285 runs at an average of 35.62 and a strike rate of 151.59.
Phil Salt has been roped in by KKR for the IPL 17 at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore. He played nine matches for Delhi Capitals (DC) and scored 218 runs at an average of 27.25 and a strike rate of 163.9.
Salt was part of Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 2024 where he scored just 116 runs in 10 matches at an average of 12.88 and a strike rate of 143.2. Overall, he has featured in 228 T20 matches and scored 5308 runs at an average of 25.89 and a strike rate of 153.41.
