Rawalpindi, March 8: Jason Roy smashed a quickfire hundred as Quetta Galdiators pulled off a record run chase in Pakistan Super League and also the fourth highest chase in T20 history.

Roy scored an unbeaten 145 off 63 balls as Quetta Gladiators chased down a target of 241 set by Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2023 with 8 wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare at the Pindi Club Ground in Rawalpindi on Wednesday (March 8).

Gladiators broke the record previously held by Multan Sultans, who had successfully chased down a target of 207 in PSL 2022 against Lahore Qalandars. This is also the fourth highest run chase in the shortest format history.

Highest Run-Chase in T20 History

1. 246/4 in 19.2 overs by Bulgaria vs Serbia in 2022

2. 245/5 in 18.3 overs by Australia vs New Zealand in 2018

3. 242/6 in 18.5 overs by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Jamaica Tallawahs in 2019

4. 243/2 in 18.2 overs by Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi in 2023

5. 236/6 in 19.2 overs by West Indies vs South Africa in 2015

The English batter also scored the second fastest hundred in PSL as he reached three figures in 44 balls, one more than Rilee Rossouw, who holds the record for fastest ton in the Pakistan Super League, having reached the landmark in 43 balls.

During the run chase, the Gladiators hit 30 fours and 10 sixes, becoming the first team to achieve the feat in PSL history. Also contributing in the run chase were, Martin Guptill (21 off 8 balls), Will Smeed (26 off 22 balls) and Mohammed Hafeez (41 not out off 18 balls).

Earlier, opting to bat first, Peshawar Zalmi rode on Babar Azam hundred and Saim Ayub fifty to set a huge target of 241 in 20 overs. Babar and Ayub shared a 162-run stand for the opening wicket. But their knocks went in vain.

Peshawar Zalmi could have sealed a playoff spot with a win, but will now need to wait to confirm their berth as the result keeps Gladiators outside chance alive.
