Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana create history after winning ICC Player of the Month Awards

Indian cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana have been honoured as the ICC Men's and Women's Players of the Month for June 2024.

This marks a historic moment as it is the first time players from the same country have won both awards simultaneously.

Bumrah's exceptional performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup played a significant role in India's triumph. He was also named Player of the Tournament, having taken 15 wickets with an impressive average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17.

Jasprit Bumrah gave his reaction after winning the Player of the Month award and expressed his happiness.

"I am delighted to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for June. It's a special honour for me following a memorable few weeks spent in the USA and West Indies. We have had a lot to celebrate as a team, and I'm delighted to be able to add this personal accolade to the list," Bumrah said.

"To perform as well as we did at the tournament and lift the trophy at the end is incredibly special, and I will carry those memories with me forever," he added.

Mandhana's Stellar Performance

Smriti Mandhana earned her recognition through outstanding performances in India's ODI series victory over South Africa. She amassed 343 runs at an average of 114.33, including two centuries, showcasing her batting prowess.

"I'm really glad to have won the ICC Women's Player of the Month for June. I'm really happy with the way the team has performed and I'm happy to have contributed," Mandhana said to ICC.

"For us, we won the ODI and the Test series and hopefully we can continue our form and I can further contribute to win more matches for India," she added.

The awards were determined by a combination of global fan votes and a panel of experts, reflecting widespread appreciation for their contributions to cricket.
