Jasprit Bumrah Gets 'Never Seen Anyone Like Him' Praise From Australia Legend, Compares To Malcolm Marshall

Ex Australian Test skipper Allan Border has placed Jasprit Bumrah on the same pedestal as West Indies legend Malcolm Marshall, praising the Indian pacer's extraordinary consistency and ability to deliver breakthroughs in nearly every spell.

Border also remarked that Bumrah is unlike any bowler he has seen before. Adding to his stellar run in 2024, Bumrah reached a remarkable landmark by becoming only the second Indian bowler, after Kapil Dev, to take 50 Test wickets on Australian soil.

This achievement came during the third day of the third Test in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where Bumrah dismissed Mitchell Starc to complete the milestone. Impressively, among bowlers with at least 20 Test wickets in Australia since the start of the 20th century, Bumrah holds the best average, an exceptional 17.82.

"I can't properly compare him to Marshall because I never faced Bumrah but just watching him there is not much (between them). Bumrah is remarkable. He rarely bowls a spell without taking a wicket. He is different," Border told the News Corp.

"Because of his action, he lets the ball go later. And he smiles all the time. He can beat a batsman three times in a row and smile each time. I have never seen anyone like him," he further added.

On Day 2, the 31-year-old fast-bowling sensation claimed his third five-wicket haul in Test matches played in Australia. Among Indian bowlers, Kapil Dev leads the charts with five such performances in Australia, while Anil Kumble holds second place with four.

This marked Bumrah's 12th career five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his eighth in SENA nations (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia), making him the first Indian bowler to achieve this feat. Bumrah surpassed Kapil Dev, who previously held the record with seven fifers in these regions.

With 50 wickets to his name in Australia, Bumrah appears poised to break Kapil Dev's record of 51 Test wickets on Australian soil. Additionally, he seems well-positioned to challenge the record for the most wickets taken in a single edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
