Mumbai Indians have received a major update on Jasprit Bumrah's potential return to the squad amid the ongoing IPL 2025 season.
Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been sidelined since January 2025 due to a stress-induced lower back spasm sustained during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. This injury has delayed his return to competitive cricket, including his participation in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

Bumrah has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he is gradually increasing his bowling workload to prevent a recurrence of stress fractures. Although he has resumed bowling, he has yet to reach full intensity.
A BCCI source indicated that while there is no definitive timeline for his return, there is hope he could rejoin MI by mid-April.
Now, a latest report from ESPNCricinfo says that Bumrah is currently taking the final rounds of fitness tests at the CoE in Bengaluru. The pacer is expected to return to the MI squad following clearance from the medical staff.
Bumrah is set to miss MI's upcoming two matches against Lucknow Super Giants on April 4 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 7. His participation in subsequent games remains uncertain and will depend on his recovery progress and clearance from the medical team.
But the expectation is that Bumrah will be joining the MI squad ahead of their match against Delhi Capitals on April 13. If he doesn't face any fresh issue, the speedster is likely to be given a clearance for IPL by the middle of next week. If things go as planned, the 31-year-old may feature in MI's April 17 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
After the RCB match, the MI have only two matches in the next 10 days, which raises optimism that the pace star may get fit by that time. But all of this will depend on Bumrah's fitness and progression. The current timeline is looking like a return on the horizon, but the remaining work and assessment will determine his actual date of return.
MI's management and fans are eagerly awaiting Bumrah's return, recognizing his pivotal role in the team's bowling attack. The player and BCCI are prioritizing long-term fitness, especially with India's five-Test series in England on the horizon.
Bumrah has so far played 133 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians since making his debut in the 2013 season. The Indian star bowler has 165 wickets to his name and has emerged as one of the greatest pacers of modern-day cricket over the last few years.
