Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update: When Will Mumbai Indians Pacer Make IPL 2025 Appearance?

By MyKhel Staff

Mumbai Indians (MI) is likely to wait longer for Jasprit Bumrah's availability in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after a worrying report emerged that the star Indian pacer could be out of action for the next few weeks.

Bumrah has missed the start of the IPL 2025 due to a back issue, which he picked up during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney earlier this year. The 31-year-old missed the subsequent international matches, including the Champions Trophy as a result of the injury.

Bumrah also missed the first two weeks of IPL action, but was expected to be fit by April first week. However, the Team India and Mumbai Indians pacer's comeback has been delayed, according to a report in Times of India (TOI).

The pacer is undergoing his recovery at BCCI Centre of Excellence, former the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where he has resumed bowling in the nets, but is yet to bowl full tilt as the report also adds his injury is more serious than first believed.

When will Jasprit Bumrah make his comeback?

Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update: The BCCI medical team, which is carefully monitoring Bumrah at the BCCI COE, does not want to rush him back with India set to play five Tests in England after the IPL 2025 season concludes next month.

"Bumrah's injury is a bit more serious. The medical team wants to ensure he doesn't suffer a stress fracture. Bumrah himself is being careful. He is bowling at the CoE but it could take longer to get back in full swing. No definite timeline has been set yet, but one hopes he gets back by mid-April," a BCCI source told TOI.

As per the report, Bumrah's return timeline is unclear, but the Mumbai Indians would be hoping to have him back in action as soon as possible. Bumrah's addition will further strengthen the MI pace unit. But they may be forced to make do without their premier pacer for more matches.

In Bumrah's absence, Mumbai Indians has managed to win one match in three outings this season. While they suffered defeats to Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya's side bounced back with a victory over the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent match.

MI has used Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Pandya as their pacers so far with uncapped Satyanaryan Raju and Ashwani Kumar playing the support roles in the pace department. Ashwani Kumar announced his arrival in style with a man of the match performance against KKR.

Mumbai Indians will next face Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (April 4) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow before they return home to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday (April 7) at the Wankhede Stadium.
