Jasprit Bumrah injury update: The Indian pace spearhead was on Tuesday (February 11) ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back spasm, delivering blow to Men in Blue just a week ahead of the ICC tournament.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement to confirm Bumrah's absence from the tournament and the country's cricket governing body also named Harshit Rana as his replacement.

"Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men's Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah's replacement," BCCI statement read.
This brought to an end over a month-long speculation about his availability for the ICC event, starting on February 19, having pulled up sore during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier in the year.
While he has been ruled out of Champions Trophy, there is also speculation over his availability for the forthcoming Indian Premier League - IPL 2025, which gets underway on March 21.
Mumbai Indian can breathe a sigh of relief as their most expensive player, Bumrah could reportedly be available for the IPL 2025. According to a report by PTI, the BCCI did not want to risk Bumrah in the Champions Trophy 2025.
As per reports, the chief selector Ajit Agarkar took the final call to exclude the pace spearhead from the Champions Trophy team. Bumrah, who has already undergone lower back surgery in 2022, sustained another stress-related injury while bowling in the final Test against Australia in Sydney.
Though NCA head Nitin Patel had given a report stating Bumrah's scan reports looked fine and that had completed his rehabilitation, doubts remained on whether he would be bowling fit by the time the tournament started, an unnamed BCCI source told PTI.
The 31-year-old is expected to go through his rehab process at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (previously, National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru to fully recover, and is expected to play in the IPL 2025, and the Test Series against England in June.
While the report suggests Bumrah will be available for IPL, there is no official word on how many weeks the star pacer will need for his rehabilitation. If it's another four to six weeks, then Bumrah is likely to feature from the start of the IPL season.
If he does miss the season, it would come as a blow to Mumbai Indians as they will be forced to play a second edition without the services of their most important bowler in the side. The Mumbai Indians have roped in Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar to bowl alongside Bumrah. So, they do have enough depth this season.
Should Bumrah be ruled out for part of the season or the entire edition, then Mumbai Indians could look at Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Saini as replacements. However, in all likelihood, Bumrah could be available for the entire season.
