Jasprit Bumrah latest injury update: Pacer on bed rest, may move to BCCI Centre of Excellence next week - Report

By MyKhel Staff

Jasprit Bumrah, India's ace fast bowler, has been advised bed rest while he recovers from swelling in his back, reported Times of India. The pacer returned from a rigorous tour of Australia last week, and the report indicates that the current situation requires cautious management to prevent any aggravation of his condition.

While Bumrah is expected to report to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, there is no fixed date for his arrival.

"Bumrah could go to the CoE next week, but right now, there is no fixed date yet," a source revealed. "He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, the future course of action will be ascertained," a source told TOI.

Initial assessments suggest that the issue is limited to swelling and not a severe injury. However, given Bumrah's history of back problems, stakeholders are adopting a cautious approach. Experts, including former India strength and conditioning coach Ramji Srinivasan, emphasize that a thorough diagnosis is essential before determining the duration of rest and rehabilitation.

"Swelling happens if there is a tear because of edema formation, which depends on the grade of the tear in the muscle. If it's a disc bulge or swelling, recovery depends on the grade, individual capacity, medical intervention, and post-medical rehab work," Srinivasan explained.

The cricketing fraternity remains hopeful that the issue is limited to muscle swelling. A disc bulge or higher-grade injury could significantly delay Bumrah's return, posing challenges as India prepares for a packed season. With major tournaments like the Champions Trophy, IPL, and India's tour of England on the horizon, managing Bumrah's recovery carefully will be critical.

The selectors are closely monitoring the medical team's updates before finalizing India's provisional squad for the Champions Trophy. The deadline for any changes is February 13, leaving room for adjustments based on Bumrah's progress.
