Jasprit Bumrah became the new No. 1 Test bowler in the world following his superb performances in the last India vs Bangladesh match. Bumrah overtook his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin in the latest ICC men's Test bowling rankings released on Wednesday, October 1.
Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the top of the ICC men's Test bowling ranking with 870 points, slightly ahead of Ashwin who sits second with 869 points. Bumrah is also currently in eighth spot in the ODI bowling rankings, and 21st in the T20I bowling rankings.

Bumrah's return to the top of the Test bowling rankings came after a heroic performance in the recent Bangladesh tour of India. In the seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh in Kanpur, Bumrah picked up six wickets. Both Bumrah and Ashwin finished the two-Test series with 11 wickets apiece.
This was the second time that Bumrah reclaimed his spot at the top of the Test bowling rankings, exchanging the top spot with Ashwin throughout the year. Both players have been instrumental in India's dominance in the recent Bangladesh series, with Bumrah's pace and Ashwin's spin giving the Men in Blue a lethal bowling combination.
Ashwin, who slipped to second place despite being in phenomenal form in the longest format throughout the year, responded with good spirits to the change in rankings. In an Instagram post, the veteran spinner wrote, "You belong here".
While both Ashwin and Bumrah exchanged places in the latest ICC men's Test bowling rankings, there weren't many other alterations at the top. However, one player to steal the spotlight was Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya, with the spinner rising to a career-high seventh place in the rankings.
In the new updated ICC rankings, the only other Indian player to make it to the top ten other than Ashwin and Bumrah was Ravindra Jadeja, who retained his position in sixth place at the back of his fine form at the Bangladesh series. The 35-year-old became the third left-arm spinner to take 300+ wickets after his performance in the second Test match in Kanpur.
