Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin paid tribute to India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah during the band's concerts at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Over two days, Martin humorously and respectfully referenced Bumrah, showcasing the cricketer's global appeal.
During their second show on Sunday, Martin played a clip of Bumrah's iconic yorker dismissal of England's Ollie Pope during the 2024 home series, calling it a tribute to the fast bowler.

Addressing the audience, Martin said, "This is very serious. Yesterday in our show, we said that Jasprit Bumrah had asked us to stop the show because he was backstage and wanted to bowl at me. This was not true. It was a lie. I'm so sorry."
He continued, "Today, Bumrah sent us a serious message. He said, 'Listen, I did not give you permission to talk about me in your shows. I am the greatest bowler in the whole world.' So, with respect and love for Jasprit, number one in the world, we hope that we send love to him by showing you this clip of India destroying England."
The gesture delighted the audience and underlined Bumrah's status as one of the world's premier bowlers.
Bumrah's reaction has now gone viral on the social space as well. He revealed that it is a special feeling to get mentioned by the band and it surely brought a smile to his face.
Meanwhile, Bumrah's fitness remains a concern after he experienced back spasms during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series earlier this month, requiring hospital attention during the Sydney Test. While the BCCI's medical team has not provided an official update, reports suggest Bumrah has swelling in his back and has been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further evaluation.
Despite the uncertainty over his recovery, Bumrah has been named in India's Champions Trophy squad, with selectors optimistic about his availability. Fans and experts are keenly observing his condition, as Bumrah is a crucial part of India's bowling arsenal.
