Jasprit Bumrah Returns From Injury, Provides Big Boost to Mumbai Indians Ahead of IPL 2025 Clash Against RCB

By MyKhel Staff

Jasprit Bumrah has returned from injury, adding big boost to Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but the ace pacer is unlikely to feature in the team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (April 7).

Bumrah suffered a back injury during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Sydney earlier this year. As a result, he was ruled out of the subsequent white-ball games for India, including the Champions Trophy, and the start of the IPL due to his rehab programme.

Bumrah, who has missed action since the turn of the year due to the back issue, underwent his rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, formerly known as National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru.

There were reports that the 31-year-old's return is likely to be delayed, but Mumbai Indians on Sunday (April 6) confirmed Bumrah has joined the squad with a video on social media, titled 'Ready to Roar'.

According to a report in Sports Today, Bumrah may have already played a practice match for Mumbai Indians on Saturday (April 5), and is likely to be monitored by the franchise's medical team in a simulation match on Sunday (April 6).

The report also adds that if all goes well he could feature in clash against RCB, but the target for his return is pencilled in for MI's next match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday (April 13).

In Bumrah's absence, Mumbai Indians have won just one match with the victory coming in their solitary home game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Hardik Pandya-led side has suffered defeats against Chennai Super Kings, Guajrat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

Although he is unlikley to feature in the immediate future, Bumrah's arrival will come as a huge boost for the joint-record champions as they aim to climb up the standings after a dismal start to the season.

With Bumrah out, MI have used uncapped duo of Ashwani Kumar and Satyanarayan Raju to partner Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar in the four matches so far. But with Bumrah back, MI's pace attack seems solid.

Ahead of the last mega auction, Mumbai Indians retained Bumrah for Rs 18 crore, the highest retention, reaffirming their faith in the ace India pacer, who broke into the Indian team after the Mumbai-based side gave him the much-needed exposure.
