By MyKhel Staff

On January 27, 2025, ICC Chairman Jay Shah, accompanied by his family, arrived in Prayagraj to attend the Maha Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Dressed in traditional attire, Shah was warmly welcomed at the Prayagraj airport and seen interacting with attendees upon his arrival.

Before arriving in Prayagraj, Shah and his family visited the revered Hanumangarhi Temple in Ayodhya, where they offered prayers. His spiritual journey to these sacred sites highlights his deep connection to India's cultural heritage despite his demanding role in the international cricket administration.

Jay Shah, who assumed the ICC Chairman role on December 1, 2024, has made significant strides in global cricket governance. Under his leadership, he has been actively involved in organizing the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which will take place in a hybrid format across Pakistan and Dubai due to India's security concerns regarding travel to Pakistan.

In addition to his role at the ICC, Shah has been appointed to the newly formed World Cricket Connects Advisory Board, which aims to address key challenges in international cricket. The advisory board's inaugural meeting is scheduled at Lord's in June 2025.

High-Profile Visitors at Maha Kumbh

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which is celebrated every 12 years, has attracted numerous prominent personalities. Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina and Olympic boxing champion Mary Kom are among the renowned figures who have participated in the religious festivities this year.

Raina shared his experience of taking a sacred dip in the Ganga, while Mary Kom was seen engaging with devotees and performing traditional rituals. At just 36 years old, Shah became the youngest ICC Chairman, succeeding Greg Barclay, who stepped down after two terms.

During his tenure as BCCI Secretary, India achieved remarkable success, including their 2024 T20 World Cup victory under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Shah has also played a pivotal role in expanding cricket's global reach, working on initiatives such as the sport's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The event certainly has a universal appeal, drawing individuals from all walks of life to Prayagraj. With Shah's leadership in cricket administration and his commitment to cultural traditions, he is making a significant impact both professionally and personally.
