In the lead-up to the T20 World Cup, Hardik Pandya's journey was marked by intense scrutiny and relentless criticism. However, his teammate Ishan Kishan shared an anecdote that perfectly encapsulates Hardik's resilience and unwavering focus.
Hardik told Ishan, "Jo Aj Gali De Rahe, Wo Kal Taali Bajaenge," which translates to "Once I start performing, those who are abusing me will be clapping for me."

Kishan, who spent around four months with Hardik before the T20 World Cup, revealed how the all-rounder maintained his composure despite the backlash. During the IPL 2024 season, Hardik took over the Mumbai Indians' captaincy from Rohit Sharma, a move that wasn't well received by all fans.
The transition brought significant pressure, with fans expressing their displeasure vocally. However, Hardik's response to the criticism was remarkably calm and collected. Kishan noted how Hardik embraced the negativity with a sporting spirit, never letting it affect his focus or determination.
"It's difficult to explain in words the past six months he has had, as there were all kinds of things said and written about him. But he never lost his cool," Kishan told the Indian Express. "I was with him during most of that time - be it training with him in Vadodara or during the IPL - and I never heard him cribbing. He was calm about it, took it in a very sporting manner, and just focused on the game."
This attitude was evident during the Indian team's interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon their return from Barbados. Hardik described his past six months as "very entertaining," acknowledging the public booing and the ups and downs he had faced. He expressed that his answer to the critics would always be through his performance on the field.
Throughout this challenging period, Hardik's focus remained unwavering. Kishan recalls Hardik saying, "Jo haath mey nahi hai uske baare mey kya sochna, log bol rahe hai kyu bol rahe, wo sab control nahi kar sakte (Those things which are not in our hands, we can't control. If I keep on thinking about what people are saying, I will lose it). The same bunch that has criticised me will celebrate me in the future and I just have to take it in a very sporting manner."
Hardik's dedication and resilience bore fruit at the T20 World Cup, where his performances played a crucial role in India's triumph. Kishan reflects, "I had a gut feeling that he was saving it all for the World Cup. I will never forget his words: 'Ek baar performance aa jaaye fir jo aaj gaali de rahe wahi taaliyaan bajayenge (Once I start performing, those who are abusing me will be clapping for me)."
