Jofra Archer Included in England's Provisional T20 World Cup Squad Despite Ongoing Injury Recovery

Jofra Archer has been named in England's provisional squad for the T20 World Cup in February, despite nursing a left side strain. He will miss the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka as he continues rehabilitation.

Jofra Archer, recovering from a left side strain, has been named in England's provisional squad for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next February.

Despite his injury, sustained during the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, Archer is included among the 15 players. However, he will not participate in the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka starting January 22.

Jofra Archer Named in England s Provisional T20 World Cup Squad Despite Injury

Archer's absence from the Sri Lanka tour is due to ongoing rehabilitation with England's medical team. The injury had previously kept him out of the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne, which England won by four wickets in just two days. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed this in a statement.

England's T20 World Cup Campaign

England will begin their T20 World Cup journey against Nepal on February 8 in Mumbai. Subsequent matches include facing the West Indies on February 11, also in Mumbai, followed by games against Bangladesh on February 14 and Italy on February 16, both in Kolkata.

Archer was a key player for England during the Ashes series before his injury. In the third Test at Adelaide, where Australia secured the urn, he took nine wickets at an average of 27.11. His performance included a notable 5/53 in the first innings and a maiden half-century with the bat.

Squad Selections and Changes

The provisional squad for the T20 World Cup includes Harry Brook as captain, alongside players like Rehan Ahmed and Tom Banton. Notably, Joshua Tongue, uncapped in limited-overs cricket, has been selected due to his impressive performances this year.

Tongue led as the top wicket-taker in this year's men's Hundred with 14 wickets. He also impressed during two Ashes Tests with 12 wickets at an average of 18.58. Meanwhile, Will Jacks returns to both squads after missing the New Zealand tour in October.

Tour of Sri Lanka Squads

The T20I squad for Sri Lanka includes players such as Brydon Carse and Sam Curran. Zak Crawley returns to the ODI squad for the first time since December 2023. However, Jamie Smith, Jordan Cox, and Saqib Mahmood have been dropped from both squads.

The ODI squad features Joe Root alongside other key players like Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid. This selection aims to strengthen England's lineup for their upcoming matches in Sri Lanka.

England's preparations for these tours reflect their strategic planning ahead of major tournaments. The inclusion of both experienced and emerging talents showcases their commitment to building a competitive team.
