Alur, Mar 15: After a lengthy absence from cricket, England's pace sensation Jofra Archer showcased his class and skill during a two-day warm-up game between Karnataka State Cricket Association XI (KSCA XI) and Sussex.
Despite being away from the cricketing scene since May 2023 due to injury and subsequent surgery, Archer displayed fine form, offering a glimpse of his bowling prowess.

Archer, who last featured in a competitive match almost a year ago, made his presence felt with a compelling performance, claiming figures of 2 for 22 in a seven-over spell for KSCA XI against his own county side, Sussex. This display of skill and determination underscores Archer's resilience and dedication to reclaiming his spot at the top of the cricketing world.
The 28-year-old speedster's journey back to the field has been marred by setbacks, including a stint on the sidelines due to an elbow injury that required surgery. Despite undergoing rehabilitation and recuperation, Archer's return to action was delayed further when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) opted to manage his workload, leading to his exclusion from the IPL players' auction in December last year.
Although Archer was retained by MI Cape Town for the SA20 tournament, his participation remained uncertain. Nonetheless, his appearance for Sussex in the warm-up game against KSCA XI signals a step in the right direction for the talented cricketer as he seeks to regain full fitness and form.
Despite Archer's commendable efforts with the ball, KSCA XI fell short in their bid to contain Sussex, with the visitors posting a formidable total of 365 in their first innings. Archer's two crucial wickets, complemented by left-arm spinner Paras Gurbax's five-wicket haul, provided a glimmer of hope for the home team, but Sussex's dominance ultimately prevailed.
The match concluded with Sussex holding a commanding lead of 164 runs after bundling out KSCA XI for 201 in their first innings. Despite a valiant effort in their second innings, KSCA XI could only muster 162 for four before the game ended in a draw.
A day before the match, Archer interacted with school kids in Bengaluru. Sussex Cricket posted on X, "We were delighted to visit the New Base school in Bengaluru to hear about the amazing work they do with orphaned children and give out t-shirts and snacks with money donated by the @SussexCricket. The kids were also very happy to see our special guest, Jofra Archer!"
