Jos Buttler on Wednesday became only the fifth England batter to complete 5000 ODI runs. The 33-year-old England white-ball captain achieved the feat during England' six-wicket win to level the 3-match ODI series 1-1 against West Indies in Antigua.
England bundled out West Indies at 202 in 39.4 overs before chasing down the total with six wickets and 43 balls remaining. Buttler scored unbeaten 58 runs off just 45 balls. His innings consisted of four boundaries and three sixes.

Buttler had endured a tough time in ODI cricket lately. The fifty at North Sound in Antigua came after a gap of 13 innings. In the World Cup 2023, Buttler scored 138 runs in nine matches at an average of 15.33. His team which was defending the title lost six of their nine matches.
In the first ODI of the ongoing series, Buttler was dismissed for 3 off 13 balls even though England posted 325 in 50 overs. The fifty and the milestone 5000 runs have come at a correct time for Buttler. There were also calls to remove him from the England captaincy but the England Cricket Board (ECB) has opted to back the T20 World Cup 2022-winning captain.
Only four England batters have earlier managed to breach the 5000-run mark for England. Eoin Morgan scored 6957 runs for England in 225 matches at an average of 39.75. Joe Root is second on the list of highest ODI run-scorers for England. He has scored 6522 runs at an average of 47.60. Ian Bell (5416) and Paul Collingwood (5092) are occupying the third and fourth spots respectively.
England and West Indies will lock horns in the series-deciding third ODI match in Barbados on Saturday, December 9. A 5-match T20I series will start between the two teams from Wednesday, December 13.
