Bengaluru, March 2: Former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad on Friday (February 2) stepped down as the chairman of junior national selection committee, citing personal reasons.
The relation of Prasad, who held the post for little over two years, with some of the top BCCI officials apparently had gone sour in recent times.
Even though the BCCI rewarded World Cup winning India U-19 side, support staff and coach Rahul Dravid, they had ignored the selectors.
However, the senior national selectors and women selectors were rewarded richly by the BCCI despite not winning the ICC Champions Trophy and the Women's World Cup.
It has also been rumoured that Prasad might join an IPL team soon and thus he wanted to avoid the possible 'Conflict of Interest' scenario.
"I tried to convince him but it seems he has made up his mind. He has been one of the finest talent spotters and deserves due credit in selecting a world champion junior team," BCCI acting president CK Khanna was quoted as saying by the PTI.
Prasad was tipped to become the chairman of the senior selection committee in 2016, but BCCI decided to continue with him in the junior panel and selected former stumper MSK Prasad for the post.
