Kane Williamson announces Retirement from International Cricket
New Zealand cricket icon Kane Williamson has announced his immediate retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished career for the Blackcaps.
The 35-year-old former Black Caps captain made the decision after months of speculation, stating it was “the right time for myself and the team.”

Williamson was part of New Zealand team in the first Test against England at Lord's, but now won't play any part in the series. Williamson emphasised his desire to manage his body better, spend more time with family, and prioritise the longer formats of the game.
In 93 T20I matches, Williamson scored 2,575 runs at an average of 33.44, with 18 half-centuries and a highest score of 95. He stands as New Zealand’s second-highest run-scorer in the format. As captain in 75 matches, he led the side to the 2021 T20 World Cup final and semi-finals in 2016 and 2022.
The 35-year-old has also played 110 Tests and has scored 9515 runs with 33 centuries. In ODIs, the Kiwi has played 175 ODIs and has amassed with 7257 runs, with 15 centuries to his name.
His elegant batting, astute leadership and exemplary sportsmanship earned him widespread respect across the cricketing world. Williamson’s final T20I appearance came during the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Tributes have poured in from fans, teammates and pundits, hailing Williamson as one of New Zealand’s greatest-ever players.
