Kapil hopeful young ICL players will make it to team India

By Staff

Chennai, Feb 9 (UNI) Former India captain Kapil Dev today said he expects the young players in the Indian Cricket League (ICL) domestic tournament to make it to team India.

It's an important tournament. Hopefully, some of the youngsters will make it to the national squad,'' the former World Cup winning captain, averred in a brief interaction with reporters on the sidelines of a programme in which he participated here.

Asked about the national selection process, Kapil said he was not expected to comment but the present crop of youngsters will rise to the expectations and do well.'' On the reported move of Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar joining the ICL, Kapil plainly said anybody was welcome to join ICL.

On the controversy involving Sri Lanka off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan on whom some Aussie fans threw eggs last week, Kapil, switching to journalistic parlance, said such negative stories should be killed. Only this will help the game.'' ''Misunderstanding between players has always been there. But we should be able to kill all negative stories,'' he added.
