Karachi Kings vs Islamabad United: On a balmy Sunday night at the National Stadium in Karachi, Islamabad United put on a commanding display to dismantle Karachi Kings by six wickets in the 10th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025.
In a contest that was anything but close, United’s skipper Shadab Khan led from the front with a sensational all-round performance, bagging the Player of the Match award in style.

Karachi Kings, having been put into bat after losing the toss, never really looked settled at the crease. Despite a packed home crowd backing them under the floodlights, their innings limped to 128 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs—a total that never looked enough on this slick Karachi track.
Islamabad United won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The Kings’ top-order faltered early. The experienced David Warner, who captains the side, fell for a laboured 3 off 4 balls, clean bowled by a lively Naseem Shah in just the second over. James Vince followed suit soon after, becoming Jason Holder’s first victim. At 22 for 2 by the end of the fourth over, the Kings were already on the back foot.
Tim Seifert, one of the few batters to show some resistance, scored 37 off 30 deliveries but struggled to find fluency. His dismissal—caught and bowled by Imad Wasim—came at a crucial juncture when Karachi were attempting to rebuild. Wickets fell at regular intervals, with Saad Baig (20 off 17) and Irfan Khan (5 off 8) unable to convert their starts. Shadab Khan’s leg-spin proved vital, removing both Saad and Irfan in the middle overs with tidy figures of 2 for 17 from his four overs.
The lower order tried to rally but lacked firepower. Aamer Jamal did swing the bat briefly for 7 off 5, while Abbas Afridi added a brisk 24 not out off 9 balls towards the death. But with only 10 boundaries and a mere 2 sixes in the entire innings, the Kings’ batting effort lacked punch. Karachi’s 128 never looked like enough against a United side brimming with batting depth.
Islamabad’s response was assertive right from the start, though not without the occasional hiccup. Sahibzada Farhan looked fluent early but fell for 30 off 18 to a sharp delivery from Hasan Ali. Colin Munro (4 off 4) followed soon after, also falling to Hasan, and at 38 for 2 in the fifth over, Karachi briefly scented a chance.
The duo stitched together a composed and fluent 65-run stand, which put United well ahead of the required rate. Azam, who smashed 31 off 30, peppered the field with clean hits and rotated the strike with ease. Shadab, meanwhile, was in imperious touch. His 47 from just 40 balls included four boundaries and two cracking sixes that silenced the home crowd. Whether sweeping the spinners or dancing down to the seamers, Shadab made batting look effortless.
Even after Azam fell to a clever delivery from Mohammad Nabi and Shadab was bowled by Abbas Afridi with just one run required, United’s chase remained calm and clinical. Mohammad Nawaz (8* off 12) completed the formalities in the 18th over, sealing the win with 17 balls to spare.
Among the bowlers for Islamabad, Naseem Shah and Jason Holder stood out with two wickets apiece, while Imad Wasim and Shadab chipped in with one each, keeping the pressure on throughout. Notably, United’s fielding was sharp, and their overall energy in the field played a major role in stifling Karachi’s momentum.
For Karachi Kings, the loss raises serious questions about their top-order consistency and middle-order firepower. The bowlers showed moments of promise, but the lack of a substantial total left them with little room for error.
With this win, Islamabad United further strengthen their position on the PSL 2025 points table, while Karachi Kings will need to regroup quickly if they are to keep their playoff hopes alive.
As the tournament moves forward, one thing is clear: when Shadab Khan is firing on all cylinders, Islamabad United are a force to be reckoned with.
