Karachi Kings are trying to get their PSL 2024 campaign back on track and have a chance to make a statement as they take on table-toppers Multan Sultans at the National Stadium in Karachi on Monday (March 3).
Multan Sultans are a tough nut to crack and have just lost once in their last six matches and a victory tonight will confirm their play-off spot at the least.
Karachi Kings are in serious need of a victory to maintain their hopes of making the playoffs after losing their last two games at the National Stadium against Islamabad United (seven wickets) and Quetta Gladiators (five wickets).
However, with five victories in their last six games, Rizwan & Co. are currently leading the league and things couldn't be better. The Multan Sultans, who defeated the Lahore Qalandars by 60 runs at Gaddafi Stadium five days ago, will play their first PSL 2024 encounter at Karachi.
There have been multiple match-winners for Multan Sultans this PSL 2024 but top-order batter Reeza Hendricks (286 runs in 6 matches) stood out and has been the backbone of the batting lineup for the Sultans.
Their mainstay has been bowling, with four bowlers ranking in the top 10, and Usama Mir, a wrist spinner, and seam bowler Mohammad Ali leading the way with 13 wickets apiece. Usama finished the last game with a 6/40.
The most notable player and greatest run scorer for Karachi, Kieron Pollard (196 runs in 5 games), has been overused by the team as other players, like Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik, have failed to live up to expectations. For the losing side, opener James Vince did demonstrate some encouraging top-of-the-order with a quick-fire knock of 37.
Zahid Mahmood, a Pakistani right-arm leg break specialist, took 2/17 in a match against Quetta and appeared unique. The Karachi Kings may rely heavily on these two guys.
