Kashmir Cricket Bat Manufacturers Association Move Court Against Shark Tank India, J&K-based Start-Up; Seek Rs 100 Crore Compensation

By MyKhel Staff

The Cricket Bat Manufacturers Association of Kashmir (CBMAK) has launched legal action against Sony Pictures Networks and Tramboo Sports Pvt. Ltd., the producers of the popular reality show "Shark Tank India".

The dispute stems from assertions made during an episode aired on January 30, 2024, which has sparked controversy within the Kashmiri cricket bat manufacturing community.

CBMAK, recognised as the apex body representing all cricket bat producers in the Kashmir Valley, has vehemently refuted claims made by the Tramboo brothers on "Shark Tank India".

In an interview with local news outlet Kashmir Dot Com, CBMAK representatives expressed deep concern over the alleged misrepresentations made on the show, contending that they have caused significant harm to their members' businesses.

The heart of the matter revolves around the Tramboo brothers' assertion of being the exclusive manufacturers of Kashmir willow cricket bats. CBMAK members argue that this claim is misleading and detrimental to their livelihoods, as it undermines the reputation and sales of their superior-quality cricket bats.

According to CBMAK, the endorsement and utilisation of their bats by various star cricketers underscore the association's credibility and the exceptional quality of Kashmiri bat-making craftsmanship. Thus, they view the Tramboo brothers' statements as not only false but also damaging to the indigenous Kashmiri bat manufacturing industry.

Expressing astonishment at the claims made on "Shark Tank India", CBMAK asserts its role as the true representative of Kashmir's cricket bat manufacturers. The association portrays itself as a staunch defender of the local industry's success and well-being, rallying unwavering support from its members in challenging what they perceive as false representations.

In response to the alleged defamation, CBMAK has taken decisive legal action. The association, through its legal counsel, has issued a comprehensive notice to Sony Pictures Networks and Tramboo Sports, demanding a public apology to be aired within 15 days. Additionally, CBMAK has filed a lawsuit seeking Rs 100 crore in compensation for the losses, damages, and mental anguish suffered by its members.

As the legal battle unfolds, the cricket bat manufacturing landscape in Kashmir finds itself at a crossroads, with CBMAK steadfastly asserting its authority and challenging what it perceives as a threat to its members' livelihoods.

The outcome of this dispute will not only shape the future of the indigenous Kashmiri bat-making industry but also serve as a testament to the resilience and unity of its stakeholders in the face of adversity.
